Ask a Neurologist

29.02.2008 - Tuberous Sclerosis

Question:

I am sorry about that. I got kicked out when I was asking my question. My question was, is it possible to have both Tuberous Sclerosis and Multiple Sclerosis?
I am 38 years old, my son is 12 and was diagnosed with TS at 1 yr. I had seizures until I was 10 and then they stopped. I have confetti spots. I have a cyst on my kydney. I have had migraines off and on forever, but have had a headache almost every day for the last two years. I have chronic feet pain, now they "wake up". I have cloudy vision and "disass-
ociation".now my new thing is pin prickling and
tingling in my head and face and pain in my jaw.

Reply:

It is very unusual to have two different neurological diseases in one person, there is no awareness of a combination of tuberous sclerosis and Multiple Sclerosis. Combinations are possible. Cerebro spinal fluid examination and/or MRI as follow-up may help to ascertain the diagnosis. If there is no cerebro spinal fluid examination showing oligoclonal bands or elevated IgG index, you never may diagnose MS definitely.
