General safety precautions and problem-solving advice for autoinjectors
Safety precautions
- The autoinjector should only be used with the 2.25 ml ready-to-use glass syringe prefilled with Betaferon and the attached adapter device (without blue cap).
- Do not use the autoinjectors for less than a 0.25 ml dose.
- Using an empty syringe or operating without a syringe may damage the devices.
- Do not point the injection aids at yourself or anyone else at any time except for injection.
- Use Betaject® Lite for subcutaneous (under the skin) injections only.
- For single-patient use only.
What to do if a problem occurs
- First of all, don’t panic and stay calm.
- Check that you used the correct syringe – the 2.25 ml syringe with green plunger – and the Mixject® adapter with the preattached needle (from which you removed the blue part after dissolving process).
- Check that the needle is firmly attached to the syringe. If the needle is loose, solution may leak out between the needle and syringe. If this happens, remove the syringe and carefully clean the device as described on pages 56 and 63 and prepare a new syringe.
Do not use the autoinjector again if any of the following happen:
- The visual signal is not working as described.
- The ready-to-use syringe cannot be inserted or removed as outlined in the instructions for use.
- It is impossible to prepare the device for use or pressing the release button requires excessive pressure.
- If the dose is not delivered completely.
Tip: If any of the aforementioned happens, please call your health care provider, e.g. your nurse, and make an appointment with them. Until then you will need to inject manually or with the help of another device.
