hi, im 19 years old.. and my neuro told me that i might have MS (not yet confirmed since i cant balance my time school and all) anyway.. can anyone explain to me what MS is (in simple terms)? I just realized that i haven’t really asked my doctor about it.
MS symptoms doesn’t really mean MS right?
uhm.. i was pre-diagnosed.. but haven’t done the tests (time constraint and all that) .. oh and i really didnt understand what the doctor said... i think im having problems with my memory and ..err way of thinking..
Hi Graham replying. I don’t think most people uderstand what MS is I didn’t untill I resurched it. In simple terms think of a piece of wire it has an insulated covering. The nerve endings in the brain and spinal cord have a similar insulating coveing called myalin (myalin sheath). This covering also helps to transmit the signal form your brain to what ever part of your body. This sheath is attacked by your own immune system and the sheath becomes depleted and hence the signal dosn’t get through. This is as I understand it but there are plenty of resourses on the net that will help yuo understand thing better. Regards Graham
If you do have MS then the sooner you get onto treatment the better. I’m in Australia but I believe the treatments are pretty much the same. There are 4 or 6 drugs used to treat MS and they help slow down the rate of progression of the disease.
Try not to be scared until you know what is involved. MS can affect a person quite severely or very little. I have MS and I work full time, am active and have a very full life. MS can be very debilitating but it really can vary very much from one person to the next.
