Betaferon® comfort and convenience

Treatment with Betaferon®

When developing medications used to treat a condition such as MS, researchers and manufacturers consider many factors that ensure the quality and the efficacy of the treatment. And although they do strive to make a medication as comfortable and convenient as possible, they must also ensure that it remains as effective and safe as possible.

As you will be using this medication for a long time it is important that it is as easy and as comfortable as possible for you to administer. The aim is to provide an effective treatment for long-term use that is as convenient and safe as possible without compromising its efficacy when administering.

Until recently, Betaferon® had to be stored in a refrigerator. Now this has changed and you will be able to store the medication in a much more convenient way. Betaferon® comes as a dried powder in a vial and although there may be a few steps required to prepare the fresh solution prior to injection, it can be stored at room temperature (up to 25ºC) for long periods of time. This allows for more independence in daily living – no longer having to search for the nearest fridge when travelling.

Injection comfort

Injection comfort may be affected by:

• The chosen injection method: Betaferon® is injected subcutaneously (under the skin)
• The injection frequency: Betaferon® is injected every other day
• The needle size: Betaferon® is supplied with very thin needles to reduce injection pain and the occurrence of needle phobia
• The composition of the drug: Betaferon® has a pH which is close to the natural (physiological) pH level
• The type of autoinjector(s) supplied: Betaferon® comes with two state-of-the-art autoinjectors to suit your particular needs

Refrigeration free

Betaferon® is the only refrigeration-free MS therapy to simplify storage, injection and travel, allowing you to have more independence in daily living.

Injection system

Betaferon® is easily self-injected with a small, thin needle that goes just under the skin. Injection is quick, discreet and often painless. In fact, in a clinical study, 86% of people taking Betaferon® reported that they experienced no pain at all associated with their injections.

The convenience of self-administration can help make the treatment of MS an easy part of your normal routine.

Non-acidic formulation

Betaferon® is a non-acidic formulation which may help to minimize stinging on injection.
